Students were not alone in their efforts to create a safe and supportive community for African Americans at William & Mary. After years of discrimination, faculty and staff found ways to show African American students that there presence at William & Mary was valued. This included everything from recruitment programs and research opportunities to the establishment of scholarships and the creation of an African American alumni group.
