Jorge Perugorría is one of Cuba’s best known actors and is also an artist. His acting career began at age 17, and he starred in several films by renowned Cuban director, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. He is perhaps best known for Fresa y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate), the first Cuban film nominated for an Oscar. Perugorría has participated in various art exhibitions in Spain, Italy, the U.S. and Cuba. He is also a director of fiction and documentary films, such as Afinidades (Affinities), Amor Crónico (Chronic Love), Se Vende (For Sale), and Fatima o el Parque de la Fraternidad (Fatima or the Park of Brotherhood). From his home base in Havana, he travels widely to act in international films as well as to work as judge at film festivals including the Gibara Film Festival where he served as the festival's president.

Su carrera como actor empezó cuando tenía 17 años y ha estrenado en varios filmes del director más prolífico de Cuba, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. Él es quizás más conocido por su rol en Fresa y Chocolate, la primera película cubana nominada a un premio Oscar. Perugorría ha participado en varios exhibiciones de arte en España, Italia, los EE.UU. y Cuba. También es realizador de películas de ficción y documentales, tales como Afinidades, Amor Crónico, Se Vende, y Fátima o el Parque de la Fraternidad. Desde su hogar en la Habana, viaja lejos para actuar en filmes internacionale, como invidato para formar parte del juradoen festivales o como el Director de Festival de Cine de Gibara.
