The Night Before Christmas in Newfoundland
Created by Bob Youden, this story parodies the lives of Newfoundlanders, from their dialect to their eating and drinking habits. Here, Santa’s arrival reminds the narrator of when “Garge Murphy fell h’off d’flake ladder,” and Saint Nick is called “d’red skipper.” Still, the book never veers into malice, but pokes gentle fun at Youden’s real-life neighbors and homelands.
