The Virginia Night Before Christmas
With slightly higher production value, E. J. Sullivan and C. J. Franks retell Moore’s poem from the perspective of a young Virginian who witnesses Santa’s arrival on deer that look like race horses and are named after the Founding Fathers and Virginia-born U.S. presidents. The book is ripe with references to tourist destinations in Virginia and local expressions. Importantly, the book excludes Black, Brown, and Native Virginias while referencing Confederate generals, which implies that the creators wrote this book with a predominantly conservative white audience in mind.
